A BRAVE shop manageress wrestled with a robber to try and stop him stealing hundreds of pounds.
The 34-year-old woman, who has asked not to be named, was working at Card Warehouse in Winsford Shopping Centre just before closing time last Tuesday when the intruder struck.
He forced his way into an office and grabbed for some money bags which were on a desk.
A struggle then took place as the shop assistant tried to stop him from taking the cash.
But he assaulted her and escaped through a back door.
Police have refused to disclose the exact sum of money stolen, although they have confirmed that it was hundreds of pounds.
Sgt Simon Price, of Congleton and Vale Royal Police Division, said: "Although a weapon was not used and the assistant was not seriously injured, she was obviously very shaken.
"The town centre was still quite busy on Tuesday night at 4.50pm and it's likely that someone may have seen this man running away. If anyone did see anything suspicious we would ask them to contact us immediately."
The robber has been described as a white male, aged between 25 and 30 years, 6ft tall with a slim build. He has dark, closely-cropped hair and a pale complexion.
The man was wearing a pair of dark coloured jogging bottoms and a cream coloured polo shirt. It is thought that he had a gold, hooped earing in his left ear and a large sovereign gold ring on the centre finger of one of his hands.
Anyone with information is asked to ring Glyn Leech at Northwich CID on 01244 613234 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555111.
