AN action-packed year is finally drawing to a close for the retiring Winsford Carnival Queen, Emma Johnson.

Emma has represented the town at more than 30 events during her time as queen.

But the 15-year-old's busy schedule will end when she hands over the crown to Laura Sanderson on July 24.

Carnival spokeswoman Jenny Sanderson congratulated Emma for her commitment over the past 12 months.

She said: "Emma has done an awful lot for us. She's attended garden parties, rose fetes, fun days and summer fairs. The commitment she has shown has been unbelievable.

"It's not just about being carnival queen for a day. The demands placed on the girls and their parents are very tough. They are always busy attending community events.

"I don't think many people realise just how much they do. Emma has been a very hard-working young lady," she added.

Emma, a pupil at Middlewich High School, said: "I've been very proud to be Winsford Carnival Queen. I have really enjoyed my year representing Winsford. It's been very memorable for me."

New queen Laura, a 14-year-old from Swanlow Avenue, Winsford, has been taking part in the carnival for the past 11 years.

And she is looking forward to taking up the challenge offered by her new role.

Just four days after being crowned, she will be in action at a strawberry tea at Westwood Court nursing home.

THIS year's carnival (July 24 and 25) will be an extravaganza. It will include an enormous parade, car boot sale, vintage rally, queens and a fun fair as well as dancing and bands.
