VETERAN bowler Richard Elvis and Cheshire spin bowler Robin Fisher ripped through Oulton Park's batting order in a low scoring First Division game at Alvanley.

The home side made a modest 148 all out for Oulton to chase but they couldn't deal with the deadly duo's deliveries and were dismissed 40 runs short of the target.

Oulton started steadily with Mike Johns taking 3-49 and David Tattersall 3-42 to limit Alvanley's batsmen and set themselves a comfortable target to reach.

The openers soon looked uncomfortable against spinner Fisher and he had soon found a way through, dismissing Mark Fitzgerald for five and Grant Long for 15.

John Davies (30) and Mike Johns (25) put up a brave defence but Fisher soon added their names to his six wicket haul for the day.

Elvis then stepped up to finish off Oulton's tailenders, taking 3-21 and the win for Alvanley.

Daniel Leech's form with the bat continues to keep Winnington Park's Division Two survival hopes alive with another great display against Ashton Mersey.

Leech made 47 as Park chased Ashton's total of 210-7 declared. Peter Procopis added 39 and Stuart Hayes 31 as Park reached the target with one wicket to spare to take 11 points from the match.

Earlier Jerry Booth had taken 3-98 as Park fielded well to keep Ashton pinned back.

The result leaves them one point adrift at the foot of the table but there are only seven points separating the bottom five teams.
