WITTON Albion manager Nigel Gleghorn's interest in a number of trialists grew after they beat Maine Road 4-2 in their first friendly of the season.

Gleghorn fielded nine trialists in his starting line up against the North West Counties side on Saturday and will be wanting to see them again in the club's pre-season fixtures.

One of them, a midfield player, is now expected to put pen to paper for the club later this week.

Club secretary Phil Chadwick said Gleghorn was impressed with the squad's first fixture.

"They played quite well and Nigel is definitely interested in a number of players who featured in the match.

"He even played three goalkeepers so he's looking at one or two different things and wanting to see how people fit in."

Gleghorn scored in the match and Wincham Park favourite Dave Anane had a hand in all four of Witton's goals.

He'll be hoping to blood more potential targets at the club's first home friendly against Stafford Rangers and against a Port Vale Select XI on Tuesday.

Saturday's game kicks-off at 3pm and Tuesday's game is a 7.30 kick-off.

Witton have missed out on left back Chris Adams, who Gleghorn had been tracking for a while. He's agreed to join Ashton.
