AN investigation has been launched by British Transport Police into the death of a former Northwich man, whose body was discovered at Hartford Station.

Sixty eight-year-old Brian Johnson had been living in Kirk Leatham, a village outside Redcar in Cleveland for several years, having moved there from Northwich.

It is believed that he had been visiting relatives in Hartford just before his death last week.

The grim discovery was made by a train driver, who found Mr Johnson's body underneath Chester Road bridge, close to a platform shortly after 5am on Wednesday (July 14).

British Transport police say his injuries are consistent with those one would expect if they had been struck by a train - but inquiries were only at an early stage.

Sergeant Paxton, of British Transport Police said: "If he had been hit by a train in the dark, the train would have been making so much noise that it is unlikely that the driver would have known that he had hit anything."

Mr Johnson, of Sir William Turner's Court, died of multiple injuries.

There are no suspicious circumstances.
