PAUL Goodwin smashed a season's best on Saturday for Knypersley as he helped his side jump to third in the league.

The number four batsman hit an unbeaten 95 at home to Leek, which included 12 fours and a six.

Knypersley scored 208 for five in reply to Leek's 205 for six declared, their 20 points lifting them two places in the table.

Leek made a good start, making 70 for the first wicket, and their opener Steve Bailey was the major thorn in Knypersley's side, hitting a century.

Mark Tournier took two for 52 off 13 overs, there was two for 43 for Chris Barry off 11, one for 23 from Neil Dutton off nine, and Andy Farr claimed one for 53 off 17 overs.

Knypersley reached the winning post with two overs and a half overs left, Dave Brew providing strong support for Goodwin with a vital 48.

He and Goodwin put on a top class 111 runs between them, Knypersley's best third wicket partnership of the season.

Jon Cumberbatch was 25 not out at the end, as Knypersley picked up 20 points to seven for Leek, who are in the bottom half of the table.
