SENIOR council officer Mike Sutcliffe is backing a shopkeeper's plans to give his business a facelift.

The owner of LA Carpets in Biddulph is hoping to improve the area around his premises by resurfacing the car park and planting shrubs.

The shop is at 107, John Street, and is earmarked for a grant of £1,820 towards the £3,640 scheme.

Mr Sutcliffe, development services head at the Moorlands Council, said the boundary of the shop was marked by a dilapidated fence and areas of scrub grass.

The owner of LA Carpets was keen to improve the appearance of the property, he said, and aimed to build walls on the car park frontage to act as planting areas for shrubs. In addition the car park will have a new surface.

The scheme would represent a lasting repair and improvement to the property, he added, and would benefit John Street residents and visitors to the town centre.
