CREWE soldier, Guardsman Robert Morgan, was among the first British soldiers to enter Kosovo as a member of the NATO-led Kosovo Peace Implementation Force (KFOR).

Robert, 24, is a member of the Coldstream Guards who has been attached to 1st Battalion, The Irish Guards during their tour of duty in the Balkans. He drives one of the 24 tonne Warrior Armoured Infantry Fighting Vehicles in the battalion headquarters.

"I expected to see many more burnt out buildings and bomb damage," said Robert. "The locals have given us a fantastic reception - it really makes being a soldier worthwhile."

Robert was educated at Kings Grove School and joined the army in 1992. He has already served in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Poland, Austria and France.

His proud parents, Geoff and Linda Morgan still live in Crewe.
