FORTY energy efficient council houses are to be built in Lacey Street, Widnes.
The new properties are being created for families whose homes are being bulldozed to make way for the £20 million Widnes town centre redevelopment. Altogether, 61 dwellings are being knocked down in the Lambert Court area for a new foodstore.
However, not all the people who are losing their homes want to stay in the town centre. Some want to move to existing properties in Farnworth, Halton View and Fairfield.
And many tenants and owner occupiers have complained that the £1,500 compensation being offered is not enough.
