HALTON Council and SS Peter and Paul RC high school are planning to submit a bid for lottery sports funding to build a new sports hall and cricket centre at the school.

And they are now looking for additional sponsorship from local businesses.

The lottery bid must be submitted by July 31 as a new two-stage application process which will be launched on October 1.

The project will provide sports facilities for the 1,500 children at the school as well as the wider community who live near the school.

The aim will be to provide a state of the art cricket facility and access to sport for all community and in particular target groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly.

The emphasis of the project will be placed on community involvement.

It will run with a joint management agreement between the school and the council, which will allow for school use during school hours and community use in the remaining time managed by Leisure Services.

So far donations have been made from companies including Widnes Car Centre, Great Universal and George Henry Lee.

Other local businesses interested in making a donation to the project should contact Leisure Client Officer, Tony Byrne on 0151-424 2061 extension 4127.
