ENGINEERING work to create a new access road into the heart of Runcorn is on track, Halton Council announced this week.
Motorists have been facing long delays on the Daresbury Expressway as contractors prepare the new link.
It is one of the key projects of the Runcorn on the Mersey SRB projects and has been funded by the new North West Development Agency (formerly English Partnerships).
The new road and its associated junction will not only provide a much improved access route into the main shopping centre, but also open up two new development sites.
The former Crosville bus depot and the former Halton College site in Chapel Street are set for new developments.
The scheme is part of the larger regeneration programme which currently includes the creation of a new bus station and the development of a promenade alongside Mersey Road, South Bank Terrace and Collier Street.
