A FORMER Labour Mayor of Warrington and community campaigner has died at the age of 72.
Ex Bewsey borough councillor Harry Lawson was the borough's first citizen in 1995-96 and was very involved with the town's Over 60s Club and the MacMillan Nurse Appeal.
Mr Lawson, of Thorn Close, Penketh, died at the town's hospital after an illness. He leaves his beloved wife May, son Derek, daughter Carol and grandchildren Roger and Rebecca.
He served as chairman of the licensing committee and he was also a member of several major council committees during his 11-year career at the Town Hall.
His funeral will take place next Tuesday, July 27, at St Alban's RC Church, in Bewsey Road, at 10am, followed by internment at Fox Covert cemetery.
