GRAPPENHALL were sunk at home by Nantwich in a key Cheshire County Cricket League clash.

The visitors batted first and amassed a total of 196-5 in 50 overs. Neil Titchard was Grappenhall's best bowler, taking two wickets.

In reply, Grappenhall batted positively with Tony McCoy, Willie Sharp and Ian Jackson all making good contributions.

Sadly the home side lost key wickets at important points and chasing the game were bowled out for 182 with one ball remaining.

The loss was matched by another disappointing defeat at home to New Brighton in the quarter finals of the Cheshire Cup.

Batting first, their batsmen struggled to get going against some tight New Brighton bowling. Only some late hitting by Neil Titchard seemed likely to break the shackles. Grappenhall were eventually bowled out for 103.

In reply, despite a slow start, New Brighton comfortably reached the target for the loss of four wickets. Ian Jackson and Neil Titchard both bowled well for Grappenhall.

The second team did little to relieve the gloom in their Cheshire County League Premier Division match at Cheadle Hulme.

Grappenhall reached a respectable 178 all out with David Seed, 48 and Mark Williams, 54, batting very well The total could have been tighter but for a lower order batting collapse.

Cheadle Hulme batted well in reply to reach the target with a couple of overs to spare and for the loss of only four wickets. Dave Coyne was the best bowler for Grappenhall, taking two wickets.
