TWO ex-Warrington Town players are back at Cantilever Park to strengthen Dave Hughes' squad for the 1999/2000 campaign.

Defender Mike Tandy returns to home soil after a spell with Tetley Walker and will be available to play when work commitments allow.

Also Mark Ashton is back on the scene and a boost to the back line is just what the doctor ordered following the losss of Elfyn Edwards (retired) and injured players Ian Hughes and Chris Hunt.

It is not yet clear if Hughes or Hunt will play at all during the campaign following bad injuries hanging over from 1998/99.

Ian Bold and Joey Fenton have recovered from bad injuries and are expected to be with the club but are currently on holiday.

The club are appealing for the services of a goalkeeper as cover for Alan Thompson. Town are ideally looking for an 18 to 23-year-old who will mind the nets for the reserve team, Warrington Borough. Anyone who is interested should contact manager Hughes assistant, Alan Blair, on 0958 798423.

Town's North Western Trains League Division Two season will begin on August 14 with a home game against Colne. Daisy Hill will then be the visitors on August 17.

These will be followed by a trip to Cheadle on August 21 in the opening round of the FA Cup.

The full fixture list, however, is still not official as there is currently an on-going saga over which league Barrow will be playing in next term.

The FA have instructed that Barrow should play in the Northern Premier League but this body has appealed and a final answer is awaited.
