THOUSANDS of pounds have been spent transforming the run-down Red Lion pub in Middlewich into a contemporary bar.

Now known as The Catz Bar, the pub in Wheelock Street has been completely re-vamped to the tune of £120,000.

"It really looks amazing," said owner Damon Horrill.

Damon, who also owns DBs in Winsford, is running Catz with the help of licensee Andy Tomlinson.

"We totally gutted the place and now it looks great," Damon added.

"During our first weekend of opening we were absolutely packed. I think it's been so popular because it's more of a contemporary bar than a pub."

The decoration and design of the bar has been influenced by Egypt and art deco. Damon explained why he chose to call his new business venture The Catz Bar.

"Well it was previously known as the Red Lion," he said.

"And I think cats are great. I love the way they behave."
