ALL the publicity about Martin Law's escapades aboard HMS Splendid has sent an influx of new recruits to the Winsford and Middlewich Sea Cadet Unit.

Since the documentary series was screened by the BBC, Commanding Officer Dave Palmer, of the Winsford-based Sea Cadet unit, says the organisation has taken on 20 new members.

He explained: "The numbers have certainly gone up considerably. We have had about 20 new recruits in the past three months.

"I think it's because they've seen the series about HMS Splendid and Martin, being a local lad, has inspired them.

"Martin was a leading cadet with us. He went through various ratings as you do in the navy - new entry, cadet, ordinary cadet, able cadet, leading cadet and finally cadet petty officer."

Boys and girls aged 10 and upwards can join the Sea Cadet unit, which is based in Bradford Road, Winsford. Anyone interested can ring Dave on 832850.
