Winsford 2nds 188-7

MARTIN Barrett and Richard Evers put on a superb partnership of 139 for the first wicket as Winsford secured a thrilling three-wicket win.

After losing the toss, Winsford took the field. Despite good opening spells from Atherton (1-34) and Fitzpatrick (1-19), Pott Shrigley had wickets in hand and grew in confidence.

With Hall hitting a fine 81, Pott Shrigley closed with full batting points at 184-4.

Richard Evers, who has caught the eye playing for the junior side recently, hit a superb 58 in Winsford's reply, but even that was overshadowed by a sparkling 81 from 17-year-old Martin Barrett.

Winsford seemed to be coasting to victory, but a spell of seven wickets for just 21 runs left the game on a knife edge.

They then had skipper Johnson to thank, as he hit a valuable unbeaten 27 - ably supported by Derek Sergeant (8 not out) - to guide Winsford home with just three balls remaining.

Winsford scored 22 points, Pott Shrigley 8.

NEXT week, Winsford 2nds are away to Chelford.
