Pott Shrigley 180-9, Winsford 153-8

Meller Braggins League

A POOR batting display cost Winsford the chance of victory on Saturday and they had to settle for a losing draw against Pott Shrigley.

Pott Shrigley won the toss and chose to bat, and Winsford secured an early breakthrough when Crellin (1-49) had Hollinshead leg-before.

Although Crellin bowled well, his haul was not increased as Winsford's slip fielders dropped three difficult chances.

It fell to A Beswick (3-57) to restrict the flow of runs, and with the introduction of Mark Dean (3-47) and his brother Colin (2-28), Winsford began to gain the upper hand.

But some positive batting by Allday (57) gave Pott Shrigley a creditable 180-9.

On a small ground, this was an achievable target, and Winsford began their reply in positive fashion with Yearsley (40) and Colin Dean (18) adding 31 for the first wicket.

But an array of poor shots then left Winsford reeling on 56-5, and it was thanks to G Whitney (52) that the innings was steadied, with good support coming from D Potts (10) and C Brandon (16 not out).

Pott Shrigley took 14 points, Winsford seven. The ball sponsor was Winsford Conservative Club.

Winsford take on Chelford at Knights Grange on Saturday, 2pm start.
