CONGLETON Borough Council is the richest authority in the country, yet it will not fund a swimming pool for Middlewich, a councillor has claimed.
Borough Clr Russell Watkinson believes that Congleton borough has a huge stash of money from the sale of its council houses to private company Dane Housing.
And he is urging the authority to use this money to pay for a swimming pool in the town.
At a town council meeting last Monday, Clr Watkinson said: "Even the poorest borough councils in the country provide swimming pools for their town. We are sick of funding other swimming pools in the borough."
Councillors agreed to send a letter to the borough expressing their feelings.
