BARNTON sprinter Helen Griffin overcame her English Schools disappointment to claim two golds and a silver at the Catholic Schools International Student Games in Lisbon.

The 16-year-old St Nic's pupil banished the Bury St Edmonds blues to take gold for Great Britain in the 100m and 200m.

She ran an excellent 12.2secs to take first in the 100m final while a time of 25.8secs sealed the golden double despite trackside temperatures almost reaching 100 degrees C.

Helen then grabbed silver as part of the 4x100 metre relay squad to round off a memorable weekend.

HOLLY French celebrated her selection to the Cheshire Inter Counties squad with another excellent performance at the Deeside AC Track and Field Championships.

The Halton and Frodsham AC member took gold in the javelin with a solid 20.15 metre throw as well as bronze in the discus.

The Deeside medals came a week after another solid performance at the MacDonalds Ladies League meeting at Crewe.

She came first again in the javelin and second in the shot and discus while sister Laura won the 3000m with a time of 12mins 8secs. She'll travel to Scunthorpe next month hoping to continue her excellent form for the county.

Laura also came second in the junior ladies shot and third in the discus while Laura Brooks rounded off a good day for the club with 2nd in the 100m with a time of 14.8secs.
