EDDIE Bishop has been named assistant manager of Witton Albion following the departure of Nigel Deeley.

Bishop, 36, was overlooked when he applied for the manager's job at the end of last season. But when Deeley left to become youth team coach at Stockport, the club had no reservations asking the fans' favourite to step in.

Bishop said: "Nigel Gleghorn explained the situation and I was quite happy to accept the position. I'm looking forward to working with Nigel. We both think along the same lines and we want to see the team playing football."

And the former Vics ace makes it clear that he has no hard feelings about being left out of the board's original plans.

He added: "It could have been very easy to let pride get in the way. I admit I was upset when I was overlooked last season. But management is something I want to do and this is a good opportunity."

Witton are still looking to strengthen their attack and will talk to Barnton players Paul Hennin and David Dale. Hennin netted in Barnton's 2-0 win over Witton.

Albion's new signing Danny Greystone scored on his debut as Witton beat Stafford Rangers on Saturday. Richard Carter and Dave Anane were also on target.

Albion travel to Rhyll on Saturday and take on Stalybridge next Tuesday.
