Ray Jones (11 not out) and Chris Holt (14 not out) put on 18 runs in the last two overs, bringing the total to 118 runs for seven wickets from their allotted 20 overs.

A very good catch by Jason Godwin (Ditton CC) near the boundary to dismiss Brian Glynn for 17 off Les Atherton's bowling was well applauded.

Eddie Burns executed a brilliant caught and bowled to dismiss Glenn Price for two.

The run out of Mark Douglas was attributed to a good throw from Paul Beddingfield.

Tony Poole was the pick of the Ditton bowlers with figures of 22 for two wickets from his five overs.

In reply Ditton's innings got off to a good start with Les Atherton (8) and Ste Morgan (13) adding 28 runs off six overs for the first wickets.

Both were out to the bowling of Chris Holt in consecutive overs.

ICI Extras were overjoyed when in the eighth over Chris Holt accounted for Ditton's dangerman Wayne Lamey when he had him caught behind the wicket for a duck.

Robbie Morris and Robbie Yearsley put on 69 runs in 10 overs and Ditton looked set for victory, but, off the fourth ball of the 18th over Robbie Yearsley fell lbw to the bowling of Ray Jones for 36 valuable runs.

In the next 2.2 overs Ditton lost three wickets in their quest for quick runs to overtake the ICI Extras total.

Robbie Morris was run out after scoring 28 valuable runs.

Tony Poole was also run out after scoring seven runs and with three runs required to tie the game for Ditton who would have won the match by losing less wickets Gareth Hatton (3) was run out from the last ball bowled by Ray Jones.

So ICI Extras retained the trophy.

The outstanding bowler for ICI Extras was Chris Holt with figures of 21 runs for three wickets in his five overs.

It was an excellent game of cricket and a credit to the President's Cup Competition.

The master of ceremonies was league vice-president Mr Peter Knowles who tanked the Widnes Cricket Club for the use of their excellent facilities for this final.

The cup was presented to the winning captain Ian Brocklebank of ICI Extras by Mr Peter Simpson, environmental manager of the league sponsors AgrEvo (UK) Ltd, who also presented awards to both teams and mementoes to the two umpires Mr J Alderton and Mr B Cafferty.

The Mom adjudicator was Mr M Holland, league management committee and after mentioning batsmen and bowlers of both sides he named his choice of Mom for both his bowling and batting outstanding performances as Robbie Yearsley of Ditton CC.
