In the new-look FA Premier Reserve league - which replaces the Pontins League - the Toffee Men will play the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle and Leeds in Widnes.

Everton's commitment to the Auto Quest Stadium is a massive boost and stadium chiefs expect 8,000 capacity crowds for the big fixtures, although this could rise to just under 12,000 later this year when the West Stand is scheduled to be completed.

For the past two seasons Everton have played only mid-winter fixtures at the Halton ground to save wear and tear on their Goodison Park pitch which has hosted the remaining games.

A Halton Council spokesman said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the stadium and an outstanding opportunity for the local community to sample top quality football at low prices.

"Everton have been so impressed by the quality of facilities and professionalism of staff at the stadium that they refer to it as 'the second home of Everton Football Club'.

Alan Myers, press officers for Everton, told Sports World: "We think the stadium is absolutely tremendous.

"This will be our third year and we have been well looked after.

"The facilities are excellent and have been improving all the time.

"Plus the size of the crowds for our games has been great, there's obviously a lot of support in the area for Everton."

"As a club we are committed to developing links with the communities of Halton and surrounding areas."

The FA Premier Reserve League now features all the Premier League Clubs from the North and Midlands of England, as well as Blackburn.

In previous seasons Premier League stars have turned out for the reserve matches in Widnes while battling for their first team places, including one Liverpool line-up which featured five first-team regulars.

Admission prices for the games will be £4 for adults, £2 concessions and free admission for Everton season ticket holders.

The stadium also hopes to run competitions for children to gain free admission.

The council spokesman added: "The Auto Quest Stadium fulfils one of its objectives to bring top quality entertainment to Halton at an affordable price for the whole community."
