TWO children and a man were killed in a crash on the M56 in Runcorn.

Their car was involved in a collision with a lorry between junctions 10 and 11.

The victims, a seven-year-old girl, 14-year-old boy and 56-year-old Salford man died at the scene.

They were travelling westbound in a Peugeot car when the accident happened, shortly after mid-day on Saturday.

The lorry driver escaped unhurt but was taken to hospital, suffering from severe shock and distress.

Police are still trying to find out how the accident happened and would like to hear from any witnesses. Anyone who can help should phone 01244 350000.
