WARRINGTON Road Club's second event in as many weeks saw 10 local cyclists competing in a 25 mile time trial in blustery conditions near Knutsford.

Fastest was Alf Hilton with 59 mins 31 sec, followed closely by Steve Hankey, 58.48 and Carl Miller, 59.01.

Other rides included Trevor Horton, 1.01.24, Dave Wright, 1.01.25, Stuart Lloyd 1.01.34, Paul McGowan 1.02.44, Dave Edmonds, 1.07.35 and Alan Ottiwell, 1.07.38.

In the annual Derek Devonport Memorial Road Race around the Daresbury circuit the tough going soon reduced the Warrington contingent from seven to two.

Hankey managed to hang onto a breakaway pack of six riders with 30 miles remaining and eventually settled for fifth place while John Atkinson used his 40 years of racing experience to finish well to the fore of the chasing pack just over a minute behind.

The Manchester and District 50 mile time trial championship staged the first team win for months. Alf Hilton led with 1.59.55 from Steve Hankey, 2.00.08 and Carl Miller, 2.01.20.

Bob Bagot raced to a personal best of 2.12.56 while Dave Wright finished with 2.08 and Dave Edmonds, 2.14.

This weekend sees the last Warrington run event of the season with the 50 mile time trial.
