WARRINGTON Wolves boss Darryl Van de Velde got his tactics spot on again.

He took full advantage of Sheffield's weary legs on Saturday from their three games in six days schedule.

He said after the game: "They were tired and we just took advantage. We wanted to keep the ball for long periods of time so that they would fatigue further.

"We went 20-0 up in the first half and then lost our way a bit. The try we conceded just before half-time was poor but in the second half we ground it out for a good result."

Warrington's high win helped to improve their 'for' and 'against' tallies in the league table and keep up the heat on fifth-placed Gateshead Thunder and sixth-placed Castleford Tigers.

The fifth spot looks as though it will be fiercely contested for until the very last match and Van de Velde acknowledges his side will have to do better than budgeted for in order to be able to reach the Grand Final play-offs.

Van de Velde said: "I said 18 wins at the start of the year would see us reach the top five but I was wrong, it will be 19 or 20. We must just worry about ourselves and not Castleford and Gateshead.

"At this point in time I think we're still in control of our own destiny. If we keep winning and playing well, all the other will look after itself."
