WHEN Toa Kohe-Love entered into the 1999 season he set his target at 15 Super League tries.

The 21-year-old has surpassed his own and everyone else's expectations after an injury-free run has seen him fulfil the promise he has shown since arriving at Wilderspool in 1996.

His first hat-trick for the Wolves at Sheffield Eagles on Saturday took his Super League tally to 22 with 25 in total with the added cup game tries.

The New Zealander, wanted in the England squad by Sheffield boss John Kear, continues to lead the country's try scoring charts.

Kohe-Love says: "It was a good achievement for me to score my first hat-trick at the weekend.

"I read in the GUARDIAN last week that Simon Gillies had managed what I hadn't and it really pushed me to get it.

"But I didn't just go out there to get a hat-trick, it just happened that way.

"It has been a long time coming and now I've got the first one out of the way maybe I'll get a few more.

"Fifteen was my target before the season started. When I got 15 I set my sights on 20. Now I'm just going from stride to stride and improving every week. I'm just going to carry on going the way I am and hopefully at the end of the season I will still be on top of the try scoring chart."

Kohe-Love's 22 touch downs is already a season's Super League record for a Warrington player but he also has the national record in his sights, 28 by St. Helens' Great Britain centre Paul Newlove in 1996.

The Kiwi is quick to praise the work of his teammates too and on Saturday it was Lee Briers who supplied the final passes for two of his tries.

Kohe-Love says: "Full credit to Lee as he put in a good performance at Sheffield.

"He's been working hard to correct his running game.

"He needs to run a bit more at the defensive line like he did at Sheffield where he showed that he's dangerous when he does attack the line."

Wolves coach Darryl Van de Velde continues to be pleased with Kohe-Love's work.

He says: "Toa came up with some good stuff again at Sheffield, specially his last try which came from nothing. His footwork was amazing."

And Darryl joked: "I've been teaching him that footwork in training."
