CONTROVERSY has once again dogged Arpley Landfill site with more work needed to control outbreaks of contaminated water.

Bosses at the Sankey Bridges enterprise were told they must comply with another set of environmental enforcement notices last week.

But by midnight on Tuesday, owners 3C Waste had satisfied Environment Agency officials that the company would monitor leachate levels on a weekly basis.

The notices also require management to ensure liquid waste is not deposited at the landfill works until contaminated water levels are reduced.

Waste bosses now have 28 days in which to comply with the order or they could face prosecution.

This is not the first time Arpley has come under the agency's spotlight - in April the GUARDIAN revealed how 3C Waste were given seven days to tackle problems with escaping landfill gases.
