CONGLETON people worried about late-night rowdies and joyriders can now ring a special police phone line with their concerns.

The so-called Community Contact Line has been launched to deal with non-urgent calls which do not require an immediate response from the police.

Road safety and anti-social behaviour are two of the issues police are targeting with the new hotline, which will be manned eight hours a day during the week.

"The aim of the new phone line is to obtain information from members of the public to help local police officers in creating a safer community," said a police spokesman.

The calls will be answered by either Sgt Kath Booth or PCs Peter Gaskell or Keith Robbins between 8am and 4pm on Monday to Friday.

Outside these hours there will be a 'voice mail facility' where people can leaves messages on an answering machine.

The police will be liaising with borough and county councils and the probation service on any issues raised by the public ringing the new service.

The phone line has been set up by the Crime Disorder unit within the Congleton and Vale Royal Police Division, and does not replace the 0800-854181 drugs line, 0800-555111 Crimestoppers line, or those calls needing an immediate response.
