CREWE ALEXANDRA's under 16 side are celebrating the marvellous achievement of lifting the Milk Cup in Ireland, matching the under 14's triumph last year.

More than 7,000 spectators witnessed the latest emerging talent from the Alex production line take a deserved victory, beating Manchester United 2-1 in the final with a strike from David Vaughan and an injury time winner by marksman Paul Edwards.

Opposition, as always in this prestigious competition, was of a very high standard.

To reach the final Crewe's results were Liaoning (Peoples Republic of China) 4-0, County Down 1-1, Welsh under 16 national team 3-0, Newcastle United 1-0 and a 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland under 16 national team in the semi-finals.

Paul Edwards also claimed the Golden Boot trophy with five goals in the tournament.
