MR HUGH COLLUM is to be the new chairman of BNFL, Warrington.

He has been elected to the board, with a view to succeeding Sir John Guinness in October.

Mr Collum, 59, joins BNFL from the international pharmaceutical company SmithKline Beecham, where he was executive vice president and chief financial officer.

He has a background of four decades in the highest levels of British industry, starting at Coopers and Lybrand, where he qualified as a chartered accountant.

Mr Collum is a past chairman of the Hundred Group of Finance Directors from l990 to l992.

He is married with two daughters and his interests include various sports and also opera.
