WARRINGTON bowler Andrew Wightman was narrowly lost in the final of a new youth bowls competition.
The inaugural Public Parks' League Laser Quest and Archway Construction Youth Merit competition attracted a top class field from Warrington and across Cheshire, Lancashire and Merseyside.
In a fiercely contested final, held at Walton Gardens on Sunday, Andrew lost out 21-16 to Southport's Darren Edgerley.
Andrew, who has already won the Lancashire Junior Merit competition, again saw off teammate Stephen Lea to reach the final but could not raise his game enough to take the title.
The event was a huge success and it was hoped to have attracted more youngsters to the sport ahead of the Crown Green Bowls Awareness Day, to be staged by the borough council on August 30 in Orford Park.
