Family pet Logo now has a two-inch diameter hole in his nose after undergoing a two-and-a-half hour operation to remove the bullet.

The six-year-old show horse was discovered by staff at Chapel House Farm, Ashley in agony from a bloody wound on his face.

When Mrs Bailey arrived at the scene - early on Sunday July 11 - she thought the wound had been caused by a blow.

It wasn't until the mother of four, who lives in Mobberley, had Logo X-rayed that the bullet was discovered.

Although it was removed and the shattered bone repaired the next day, the brown gelding had to spend two weeks recovering at an equine hospital.

Last week he was well enough to leave the clinic and have the 45 stitches he needed after the operation removed.

"He has been sent through hell," said mother-of-four Mrs Bailey. "He has lost a lot of weight and he looks 20 years older with the trauma of the operation."

This week Logo was allowed to join other horses at the farm and was, said Mrs Bailey, looking happier.

Mobberley Pc John Evans said no witnesses had come forward about the attack but appealed for help from the public who may have seen anyone in the Ashley area on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

"I would have thought they would have been aiming at this horse as target practice," said Pc Evans. "It's very nasty in this respect."
