TENCH are still the target species at Warrington Anglers' Association's Rixton Claypits with specimens upto 5lbs falling to maggot or corn.

Plenty of small roach and perch are also being taken.

The weed problem at Grey Mist is being addressed but the ideal growing conditions have overtaken events. This is a problem on waters throughout the country and seem to be worsening each year.

Astle Pool is producing carp to 15lbs with a lot of fish evident in this small fishery that is stuffed full of natural food. Odd bream plus plenty of roach.

Cicily Mill Pool is always popular at this time of the year with members reporting good catches of bream to 6lbs, tench, and crucien carp. Legering that gives access to the channel that runs along the far side of the water is giving the better results.

Catches at Sandiway Lakes are improving beyond belief - the large lake for specimen bream and tench to 6lbs with the smaller fishery for the most consistent mixed sport.

A visit is definitely recommended. Caster or corn worksbest, but according to some of the carp anglers who are 'pestered' on the large lake with bream a switch to mini-boilies could produce results.

I don't get many reports from Budworth Mere but when I do it's generally very good.

Ian Andrews definitely knows the score. He pre-baited his swim with casters and corn in a 5 kilo groundbait mix. This was rewarded with a fantastic morning session of 32 bream to 4lbs for an estimated weight approaching the magical 'ton'. He fished a groundbait feeder and alternated between worm and corn on the hook.

Our women's match group did Warrington Anglers' Association proud in the Embassy National Championships held on the River Severn at Shrewsbury on Saturday.

We took the bronze medal in the team event, just losing out for the silver by a mere 40gms. Our other teams came in fifth and sixth places, not

too bad for a 'canal outfit'. We also had four in the first 10 individuals. Helen Thompson was fourth, Wendy Lythgoe fifth, Carolyne Arthur, eighth and Lin Lawton, 10th. Manager was Pete Cummings and thanks go to Kieron Rich for his information on the venue.

HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight, Friday, for subscriptions, new members,
