THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF A NEW DEAL BETWEEN THE WOLVES AND ALFRED MCALPINE TO TAKE THE CLUB TO A NEW STADIUM WAS MET BY A MIXED REACTION FROM THE FANS.

PAUL Worrall, from Wilderspool, said: "I think it's an absolutely fantastic idea. The days of tradition have gone as far as I'm concerned. Rugby is more like a business now and it's getting more like football. We have to keep up with the likes of Leeds, Bradford and Wigan or else the club will die and we can't allow that to happen."

Lee Payton, from Bewsey, added: "I don't think we should have a new stadium because we have been at Wilderspool all this time and there's a lot of history at this ground. Unfortunately it looks like it's going to happen anyway, but it will be sad to leave here."

Ken Foulkes, who has supported Warrington for 70 years, said: "There has been a lot of dissent among supporters because there has been talk of building the new stadium on a site past the Gemini area, which is too far out of town. I personally would rather see Wilderspool updated but if they had to move at all then the Winwick Road site would be more favourable.

John Phelps, from Thelwall, chipped in: "There's no public transport going up to Burtonwood so a site there would cause a problem. The majority of the people who come here come from Latchford and that area so to go all that way would be an inconvenience."

Phil Dobson, of Tarporley, said: "I think it will be a good move because a new stadium will bring in more supporters and we need more support to step up another level. We might not quite be good enough to reach the top five yet but with more people coming through the turnstiles they might have a better chance."

Mike Culleton, a Wilderspool regular for 45 years, said: "If they put the new one out near Burtonwood then it would be too far for a lot of people to travel. But even though I have been coming here for a long time I still think that a new stadium is the only way forward. It will be a bit of a tear-jerker to leave Wilderspool but you have to move with the times."
