A KEEN cyclist is taking to the road to raise money for a worthy cause.

Paul Conlon, a 23-year-old customer services advisor from Glazebrook is to pedal across India on a mammoth 10-day trek.

And he has joined forces with a woman from the same village who is taking part in the same expedition - 29-year-old teacher Karen Slavin.

"I originally planned to cycle across Pakistan," said Paul, "but was disappointed when the organisers could not find enough people to take part.

"Karen and I didn't know each other before, but I heard her in the pub and couldn't believe that someone in the same small village was doing the same thing.

"We met up and plan to start fund-raising and training together."

The minimum sponsorship for the event is £2,500 and Paul would love to hear from businesses and individuals interested in doing their bit for Mencap. Call him on 0161 775 5651.
