CONGLETON people have the chance to feature on Granada news next week as part of a charity initiative by the TV company.

Paul Crone and his team from Granada will be in the centre of Congleton for four hours next Wednesday to drum up support for Granada's Treasure Trove Appeal.

Local people are being asked to bring along unwanted or broken jewellery, which will be used to raise money for vital lifesaving equipment in the North West.

The donated items will be melted down, and the proceeds used to supply equipment to lifeboat stations across the region.

The Treasure Trove Appeal also coincides with the RNLI's 175th anniversary, and the Granada team will be bringing along a three-wheeled speedboat to help promote the appeal.

They will also have with them Les Battersby's camper van from the hit Granada TV soap Coronation Street.

Camera crews will be filming at the top end of the pedestrian walkway outside Woolworth from 10am and 2pm, and the footage which will be broadcast on Granada Tonight between 5.30pm and 6.30pm the same evening.

If anyone is unable to come along on the day, but would like to contribute to the appeal, there will be a collection point for donated items at the Congleton Tourist Information Centre in the town hall.
