THE MILLENNIUM Nantwich and South Cheshire Show should be something special - but just how do organisers top this year's fantastic record breaker?

"We are looking towards next year already, but the 1999 event will be a hard act to follow. It was so good," said joint secretary Adrian Lawrence.

An all-time high of 30,000 visitors attended the show at Dorfold Hall Park.

The Cheese Section also broke records, with 1,750 exhibits from 19 different countries.

"World wide interest was amazing and we even had some visitors from Japan for the first time. They came to look and learn from the wide variety of cheeses on display," Mr Lawrence added.

Animal and produce exhibits also attracted record numbers.

The '99 Show had the logo "Keep Britain Farming into the Millennium".

"It certainly proved that enthusiasm and optimism for the future is high in the farming community after the low point we reached last year with the beef crisis," said Mr Lawrence.

"And visitors proved their concern for and confidence in the industry. They showed an interest in all sections and many were particularly anxious to find out more about produce and organic food," he added.

The glorious weather also contributed to the success of the day.

"We really had a perfect day and although we shall be trying to organise something special for the Millennium it's not going to be easy to improve on this year," said Mr Lawrence.
