MURPHY the Lurcher is 'woof and ready' for the national finals of the Chappie 'Scruffts' Dog of the Year 1999 Competition, at Leicester.
After winning the Cheshire heat he now receives his chance to become National Champion in the only dog show in the country for non-pedigrees. Entrants have to be well cared for, loving and have a great personality and if Murphy is successful, he will enjoy a year's supply of dog food, a trophy and a medal, as well as becoming a star in the national press and media.
The two and a half year old loveable lurcher has come a long way considering his terrible start in life. Owner Katie Bottomley, from Crewe, came across Murphy at a rescue home and instantly fell in love with him.
Withdrawn and nervous from his early mistreatment, Katie took Murphy along to All Sorts Dog Training Club at Reaseheath, Nantwich, where hard work and dedication together with his owner's love and attention have completed a wonderful rehabilitation.
Apart from his success in the competition, Murphy also stars with his role in the Allsorts Dog Display Team, where his special talent is running through hoops of fire.
"I'm so pleased he's done so well. There is no pressure on Murphy to do any of the things he does, he just enjoys them. I love him." said Katie.
