HOCKEY star Gemma Torrance has plenty to smile about after being selected to represent Cheshire in this year's under-16 squad.
The Cransley School pupil has represented her county for the past two years and made it three in a row when she impressed selectors at trials in Ellesmere Port.
As well as her county and school, Gemma also plays on the right wing for Winnington Park ladies.
She said: "I was really excited and very proud to be picked because I've played for the last two years, but this time there are lots of new players around.
"There is a squad of 18 and they haven't picked a team yet, but we will be playing every other county in a league, so I'm hopeful of getting a game at some point."
Gemma, aged 15, lives in Whitegate, and is showing great form in the senior game, to stand her in good stead for representative matches.
She scored two goals on Saturday for Winnington's third team in their 7-0 victory over Bollington. A report and full hockey round-up appears on page 77.
