A GOAL two minutes from time denied Winnington Park's ladies hockey team victory in Saturday's game away to newly-promoted Broom at Chester-le-Street.
Park were dominant throughout the game and were unlucky not to come away with three points.
The first goal came from a goalkeeping error, which was exploited by Park's Karen Thwaites. Broom responded and forced an equalizer just before half-time.
Park began the second half well but failed to exploit their advantage until a breakaway run by Thwaites was illegally thwarted by the Broom keeper. The resulting penalty stroke was put away by Julie Dunn.
Broom again produced numerous attacks and Park held on well in defence until the final couple of minutes, when a cross-field ball was dribbled over the line to make it 2-2.
Winnington 2nds played Chester 2nds in the league, losing 4-2. Julie Rafferty opened the scoring early on, but Chester were 3-1 up at the break. Winnington's second goal came from man of the match Vicki Marshall.
Park's 3rds continued their fine run with a 7-0 thrashing of Bollington.
Leading 1-0 at half-time from a Nicola Lynch goal, Park came out in the second half with all guns blazing.
Lynch netted two more goals to complete a hat-trick, with further goals coming from Cathy Buckley (2) and Gemma Torrance (2).
THIS Saturday, Park take on Ben Rhydding in a league game at Sir John Deane's College (2.15pm). The 2nds are away to Daten, while the 3rds take on Timperley at Winnington Rec (2.30pm).
