A FINAL decision on whether Marbury Lane stays closed is about to be made.

Cheshire County Council will decide on November 3 - and people are being urged to make their views known loud and clear.

Clr Scott Marsh is calling on members of the public to demand it reopens.

Marbury Lane has been shut since last November when three young men died in a car accident on a bridge over the canal.

Since then the battle to reopen the lane has raged on - with more than 3,000 people signing a petition to open it.

Campaigners say the closure has cut off a vital route into town from Barnton, Comberbach and Anderton.

But despite this members of Cheshire County Council's environment committee have remained unmoved and the lane has stayed shut.

They claim it would cost £1.25 million to keep Marbury Lane open and the money would be better spent elsewhere.

On November 3 the council's environment services committee will make recommendations about the lane - then a final decision will be made by the county council's policy committee on December 1.

Under county council rules members of the public have the right to address the committees - but seven days prior notice must be given.

Clr Marsh, who represents Barnton said: "Your support in keeping Marbury Lane open is needed.

"I do hope many of you will exercise this right and have members of these committees hear the voice of the people who live and work in this area.

"It is our lane, not a political football," he added.
