CASTLE United Reformed Pre-School has won a special award for its sugar-free snacks for children.
An investigation by the Dental Health Education Service discovered a high rate of tooth decay among local children. The response was the introduction of a scheme to encourage schools to be more aware of the dangers of sugary snacks - and Castle Pre-School has been rewarded for embracing this.
The school's supervisor, Sharon Doodson said: "We decided to introduce six new menus that we varied from week to week including such things as carrots and cucumbers.
"The children were given these for a mid-morning snack instead of sugary foods and I am delighted that the school is being recognised for this."
Pat Howells from the Dental Health Education Service will be presenting the award on Monday, October 11.
