POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was punched and robbed of his shopping on Monday night.

The 59-year-old victim, who did not want to be named, was walking back from ASDA in Crewe at 7.45pm on Monday night after doing his shopping.

He walked home along West Street, on to Meredith Street and was at an alleyway between Furbur Street and Badger Avenue when the attack happened.

He was approached by two youths, aged about 15 or 16, who punched him in the face.

He fell to the floor and they took his plastic shopping bag containing food and drink.

The two youths then ran off towards the town centre and the man went to a nearby house where the resident raised the alarm.

The man was treated at Leighton Hospital for severe bruising and minor cuts but was not detained.

The first offender is described as a white male, aged 16, 5ft tall, skinny wearing a black coat and baseball cap.

The second youth was about 15 years old, 5ft tall with a thin face wearing a black anorak.

Police believe it is possible the two attackers followed their victim from ASDA along West Street and Meredith Street to the alleyway.

They are appealing for anyone who may have seen the youths before or after the robbery to contact them on 500222.
