Orrell St James 39
HOLDERS Orrell from the NWC Premier Division progressed through to the second round of the Lancashire Cup after a hard-earned victory over West Bank from Division One.
Orrell got off to a perfect start with a try after only two minutes from second-row Carney, converted by scrum-half McHugh.
The Bank replied immediately when good play from centre Tony Fillingham and winger Andrew Taylor saw centre Steven King race over for a try, prop Danny Hale converted.
Ten minutes later the Bank went in front for the only time with a second try from Steven King after a strong surging run from second-row John Buckley.
Orrell then got on top with former Keighley star Sean McHugh to the fore.
McHugh and winger Burns scored tries and McHugh converted both and added three drop-goals to put Orrell 21-10 up at half-time.
Orrell loose-forward Turner increased the lead with a try from a scrum after the Bank dropped the ball from the restart.
Ten minutes later a good run from Bank stand-off Dave Beswick saw second-row Ian Connor beat two defenders for a neat try.
Turner then added his second try.
Dave Beswick and Tony Fillingham combined well to send Steven King over for his hat-trick but Orrell had the final world when McHugh, who took his tally to 19 points with three second-half conversions sent winger Fisher in for the final try.
Bank Mom went to loose-forward Rob Corish with Ian Connor, Dave Beswick and Steven King just behind.
West Bank A 11
Langworthy Red 8
THE BANK second team gained a deserved success over new boys Langworthy Reds to record their first victory of the season.
The game was a stop-start affair with the Bank on top but unable to make their superiority tell.
Langworthy almost crossed in the first minute but thereafter the Bank defence stood firm with props Joe Ward and Mom David Murphy making some telling tackles against the big, rough Langworthy pack.
Langworthy scored their only try in the final minute.
The Bank's experienced campaigners Rob McKeever, Mark French, Neil Fox and Stephen Jones were always dangerous and the Bank youngsters Phil Dean, Mark Woodward and Richard Miller responded well.
The Bank led 5-0 at half-time from two Rob McKeever long-range penalties and Mark French's drop-goal.
Stephen Jones, Paul Ward, Mark French and Paul Fenney all went close as the Bank dominated.
A try eventually came with second-row Mark Woodward finishing superbly with a 50 yard run to the line following a good pass from Stephen Jones.
McKeever increased the lead with a further penalty.
The Bank defence then held firm for the final minutes after Langworthy's late try.
