THIS morning I attended the Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving, at the Parish Church in favour of the men and women who lost their lives in the two World Wars during 1914 -1918 and 1939 -1945.
On coming out of the church, most people had to collect their cars from Sainsbury's car park, which also contained a lot of shoppers' cars. So, I wondered why some of those people could not have spared the time to come to this annual memorium service to the dead.
Many of them must have had a relative, who had served in both wars. Shopping facilities are made easy these days. Surely an hour or so to attend this service once a year would not inconvenience anyone, to remember those who fought for our freedom, a thing we wouldn't have enjoyed had the war ended differently.
So people of Warrington, think about it for next year, October 1, 2000.
