I recently signed on at the Warrington Collegiate Institute (Museum St) for a continuation course in German, this being my third year. As a senior citizen I looked forward to the continuing challenge. My dream was shattered today, I received a phone call from Museum St telling me that the course was cancelled.
The reason given was lack of support. There are nine people enrolled on the course, most of them continuing students. I ask myself 'what price education' when we can be treated like this. I was told that the acceptable level of enrolment is 16 people.
This leaves me wondering at the ability of the people planning these courses. Surely in this day and age, with our membership of the EEC, the learning of a European language should be encouraged. I hope this letter will make other citizens of Warrington think carefully before enrolling on a course offered by the Collegiate Institute.
