Moore RUFC 29 Prenton...7
MOORE saw off Prenton without the services of many first team regulars.
The remaining squad members, players returning from injury and the new faces drafted in from the seconds gave ample proof of the strength in depth that now exists at Moore.
Prenton had no answer to pressure from Moore's forwards and conceded a number of penalties for full back Ian Bradbury to kick Moore into an early 9-0 lead.
They maintained their superiority and good play in the backs saw debut player Ian Hunter cross the line for a try converted by Bradbury to give Moore a half-time lead of 16-0.
Bradbury extended the lead with a try and a conversion to make it 23-0 before Prenton hit back.
Bradbury grabbed another two penalties and his faultless kicking made him the man of the match.
Moore face Prenton again this week in the second round of the Tetley Vase.
The second team beat Widnes Thirds 20-19 in a terrific home tussle.
Tries from Butler, Dignum, Woollacott and Potter put them in control and after a late score hauled Widnes to within a point, Moore nervously hung on for the win.
