Tetley Walker 4

Curzon Ashton 2

A HAT-trick of penalties by full back Carl Dermott shot Tetley Walker into the first North Western Trains League Challenge Cup first round.

The last time Curzon visited Long Lane they went home 7-0 victors but this Tetley Walker side is a much tougher side than their predessors.

Curzon started the game like a house on fire and took the lead after just seven minutes when Steve Gavin finished off a sweeping move by tapping home a left wing cross.

Five minutes later Tetley levelled the scores when Barry Edwardson held off two defenders to hit a shot on the turn from the edge of the area.

Gavin restored Curzon's lead by converting a 28th minute penalty to score his fifth Long Lane goal of the season.

But with nine changes from the team which surrendered to Curzon in August, Tetley were back on level terms six minutes before half-time.

Tony Healey was pulled down in the area to allow Dermott to step forward and slot the ball away. Healey was again fouled in the area shortly after the restart to allow Dermott to convert his second spot kick.

Division Two leaders Curzon started to lose their cool and goalkeeper Tommy Allen took out his frustration on Barry Edwardson to concede the fourth penalty of the afternoon.

For the third time Dermott scored from the penalty spot to complete a rare hat-trick.

Despite their visitors having several chances late on, Tetley Walker held on to book a first round trip to Fleetwood Freeport.

Team: Medland, Colrns, Dermott, Trantum, Webster, Collins, Woodyer, Maher, Flood, Edwardson, Healey. Subs used: Gwyther, Lonsdale.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Tetley Walker visit Ashton Town, kick-off 3pm.
