MOTORCYCLE racer Steve McDonald has ended the season in fine style by storming to the British 350 Production title on his way to becoming Champion of Champions.
He clinched the production section with a second and third place in rounds 12 and 13 at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.
And his high-scoring season left him needing one more win at the famous Brands Hatch circuit at the weekend to notch a maximum 180 points for the season and make him the highest scoring champion from all classes.
But Steve said he did not have the greatest preparation.
"My car broke down on the way there and I thought I wasn't going to make it. Eventually I arrived at 3.30am and only got a couple of hours sleep before racing eight practice laps,"
"It was my first time around the circuit and the Paddock Hill bend frightened the life out of me. Then I was made even more nervous when one rider had a crash and had to be taken to hospital.
"Thankfully, I kept my head and made sure I was in front in my class and it was sheer delight when I crossed the line.
"All the hard work myself and my right hand man Phil Jollie have put in has payed off. But now I will probably have to hang up my leathers for a year to work and pay off the debts I've run up this season."
